The urban fabric in this area of l’Hospitalet de Llobregat is messy and mixes old industrial constructions with housing buildings. The main streets have considerable size and traffic, while the more local ones still present the appeal of the small settlements.
The project consists on the restoration of an existing industrial building, together with the construction of new multi-family housing buildings. The main idea is based on the public space.
The industrial building is restored as a tapestry of duplex single-family homes, alternated with their private gardens, where the existing roof is cleared. On the other hand, the new housing buildings are raised on a basement which contains commercial spaces and a sequence of open public spaces and porches that lead to the interior of the block. At the same time, the deck of this basement is also conceived as a public space.
